Screen Room Installation in Southeast Louisiana & Mississippi Gulf Coast
A professionally built screen room can turn a covered patio, porch, or outdoor slab into a more usable living space without closing it off from fresh air. Southern Home Improvement Center installs custom screen rooms and aluminum screen enclosures for homeowners across Southeast Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Every project is planned around the existing home, roof conditions, drainage, doors, traffic flow, and Gulf Coast weather. The result should feel like a natural extension of the outdoor living area—not an enclosure added as an afterthought.
What We Build
Screen room projects vary depending on the patio, roof, slab, and how the space will be used. We build complete enclosure solutions around the conditions already present at the home.
Existing Patio Roof Enclosures
Screen walls, doors, framing, and kickplates can be installed beneath an existing patio roof when the structure is suitable for enclosure work.
Screened Patio Enclosures
Covered patios and outdoor slabs can be transformed into more usable screened living areas while maintaining natural airflow.
Screen Room + New Patio Cover
When no suitable roof exists, the patio cover and screen enclosure can be planned together as one complete outdoor living project.
Custom Aluminum Framing
Wall sections, doors, framing, and transitions are configured around the dimensions and layout of the property.
Bahama Breeze Systems
Bahama Breeze-style enclosure systems are used on many of our completed Louisiana screen room projects.
Screen Enclosure Upgrades
Existing enclosure projects may include replacement screen walls, doors, framing sections, and related improvements.
Can an Existing Covered Patio Become a Screen Room?
Often, yes. An existing covered patio can be an excellent starting point for a screen room, but the roof, slab, attachment points, drainage, and layout should be evaluated before screened walls are added.
If the existing roof is not appropriate for the enclosure, the project can include a new flat-pan or insulated patio cover.
Screen Room Details That Matter on the Gulf Coast
Heat, humidity, heavy rain, insects, and wind-driven water all affect how an outdoor enclosure should be planned in Louisiana and coastal Mississippi.
Drainage & Water Control
Roof runoff, gutters, downspouts, slab edges, door thresholds, and discharge locations should be considered before the enclosure is completed.
Doors & Daily Traffic
The best door location should follow how people actually move between the home, patio, yard, driveway, furniture, and outdoor cooking areas.
Kickplates & Protection
Aluminum kickplates help protect lower screen sections from chairs, pets, lawn equipment, and everyday contact while creating a more finished appearance.
Roof Type & Shade
When a new roof is part of the project, flat-pan and insulated systems offer different approaches to shade, heat transfer, drainage, appearance, and budget.
Screen Room vs. Glass Room or Sunroom
Open-Air Outdoor Living
- Natural airflow through screened walls
- Helps reduce mosquitoes and flying insects
- Helps block leaves and larger debris
- Outdoor temperature and humidity remain
- Ideal for covered patios and outdoor living
More Enclosed Living Space
- Glass or glazed wall systems
- Greater separation from rain and weather
- Different solar and ventilation considerations
- May include insulation and climate-control planning
- More room-like finished environment
How Screen Room Installation Works
Site Review
We evaluate the patio, slab, roof, attachment points, access, drainage, and intended use of the space.
Layout Planning
The enclosure footprint, screen walls, doors, kickplates, roof work, and related options are defined.
Project Preparation
Existing conditions that affect installation are addressed and the work area is prepared.
Framing & Screen Installation
Aluminum framing, screened wall sections, doors, and enclosure components are installed according to the planned layout.
Final Review
The completed screen room is checked for doors, transitions, visible details, and overall project completion.
Two Common Ways to Build a Screen Room
Screen Room Under an Existing Patio Roof
When the existing roof, slab, attachment points, and drainage are suitable, screened aluminum walls can often be added without rebuilding the entire covered patio.
The enclosure may include one or more doors, kickplates, custom wall sections, and adjustments around existing columns, exterior walls, and roof supports.
Screen Room with a New Patio Cover
If the home does not already have a suitable covered patio, a new patio cover and screen enclosure can be designed as one coordinated project.
Roof dimensions, post placement, drainage, gutters, screen walls, doors, and shade can all be planned together from the beginning.

Screen Room Installation FAQ
Can you install a screen room under my existing patio cover?
Often, yes. The existing roof, slab, attachment points, drainage, and layout should first be reviewed to determine whether they are suitable for the proposed enclosure.
Can a screen room include a new patio roof?
Yes. Some projects combine a new flat-pan or insulated patio cover with the screen enclosure so the roof and screened walls can be designed as one system.
Does a screen room keep rain out completely?
No. A screen room remains an outdoor space. The roof provides overhead protection, but wind-driven rain and fine moisture can pass through screened walls. Proper drainage and enclosure planning help manage water around the patio.
Is a screen room the same as a sunroom?
No. A screen room uses screened walls to maintain natural airflow while reducing insects and debris. A sunroom or glass room uses glazed enclosure systems and is planned around a different level of weather separation and comfort.
Can doors and kickplates be customized?
Door locations, wall layouts, kickplates, and finish selections can vary by project. The final configuration depends on dimensions, access, existing conditions, and the selected enclosure system.
How do I get a screen room estimate?
Start with the property location and basic project information, including whether a patio roof already exists, approximate dimensions, and the type of outdoor area you want to enclose.
