FORTIFIED Roof in Edgard, LA with IKO Earthtone Cedar Shingles
Southern Home Improvement Center completed this FORTIFIED™ roof project in Edgard, Louisiana with Limited Lifetime IKO Class 3 impact-resistant, algae-resistant shingles in Earthtone Cedar.
For this Edgard roofing project, the work focused on more than the new shingle surface. The scope included matching ridge caps, new chimney flashing, a chimney cricket, electrical mast flashing, a new pipe boot, ventilation updates, debris removal, and magnetic yard cleanup.
The finished roof gives the home a warm cedar-toned appearance while addressing several details that matter on Louisiana homes, especially around chimneys, roof penetrations, and ventilation openings.
IKO Earthtone Cedar Shingles for a Clean Finished Look
The homeowner selected IKO Class 3 impact-resistant, algae-resistant shingles in Earthtone Cedar. This color gives the roof a natural, dimensional look without making the home appear too dark from the street.
IKO Hip & Ridge ridge caps were installed along the ridge lines to complete the roof system. Matching ridge caps help the finished roof look more consistent and avoid the patched-together appearance that can happen when ridge details do not match the main shingles.
Main Roof Surface
Limited Lifetime IKO Class 3 shingles were installed in Earthtone Cedar for a warm, finished roof profile.
Ridge Lines
IKO Hip & Ridge ridge caps were used to finish the top lines of the roof with a cleaner visual match.
Chimney Area
New chimney flashing and a chimney cricket were included to better direct water away from a common leak-prone area.
Ventilation
The existing power vent was removed and a 14-inch brown turbine was installed in the existing roof opening.
Chimney Cricket and New Chimney Flashing
The project included furnishing and installing a new cricket behind the existing chimney. This detail helps move rainwater away from the back side of the chimney instead of allowing water to sit in that area during heavy rain.
New chimney flashing was also installed behind the existing chimney. Chimney areas are one of the most important places to handle carefully during a reroof because old or poorly tied-in flashing can become a leak point even when the surrounding shingles are new.
Electrical Mast, Pipe Boot, and Roof Penetration Details
Around the electrical mast, Omega flashing was furnished and installed to help protect the roof penetration. The crew also installed one 3-inch Bullet Boot.
These smaller roof details are easy to overlook from the ground, but they affect the long-term performance of the finished roof. Penetrations, boots, flashing transitions, and existing roof openings all need to be addressed as part of the full roofing scope.
Ventilation Update with a Brown Turbine
The existing power vent was removed during the project. In its place, one 14-inch brown turbine was installed in the existing opening.
This allowed the ventilation detail to be updated while keeping the new roof surface neat and consistent with the Earthtone Cedar shingle color.
Clean Finish and Job-Site Cleanup
After the roofing work was completed, the job site was cleaned of debris. The yard was rolled with a magnetic roller to help collect loose nails and small metal pieces from the work area.
Disposal of the removed shingles was also included in the project. The result was a completed FORTIFIED roof in Edgard, LA with a clean roofline, updated flashing details, refreshed ventilation components, and a cleared work area.
