Glass Room & Enclosure in Kenner, LA — 10×15 Insulated Thermal Three System
For this project in Kenner, Louisiana, Southern Home Improvement Center (SHIC) built a custom insulated glass room and enclosure designed for bright, comfortable, everyday use. The scope included site prep and grading, a reinforced concrete slab tied into the home, masonry details, an insulated Thermal Three wall system with Low-E/argon glazing, two full-view 12-foot sliding glass doors, and a 3-inch foam-filled insulated roof with an integrated gutter system.

Project Snapshot
Below is a quick overview of what was installed, so you can see the build at a glance.
- Site prep: Removed and hauled away existing shrubbery; brought in fill to level the ground.
- Foundation: New concrete slab approx. 10 ft. × 15 ft., doweled into the house slab.
- Reinforcement: Wire mesh plus a Visqueen vapor barrier; concrete footing around the perimeter.
- Support: (6) concrete supports under the slab, approx. 3 ft. × 12 in.
- Masonry: (1) 12 in. × 12 in. brick column; 24 in. double-wide brick base on the 10 ft. side wall.
- Wall system: Southern Sun Room custom-manufactured insulated Thermal Three glass room, approx. 10 ft. × 15 ft.
- Windows: Lifetime vinyl windows (side of room only) with Low-E glass and argon gas.
- Doors: (2) heavy-duty, full-view insulated 12-foot sliding glass doors with Low-E glass and argon gas.
- Roof: 3 in. foam-filled insulated roof approx. 11 ft. × 16 ft. with integrated gutter system and (1) fan beam.
- Comfort: Heavy-duty hotel-style heat and cool unit installed into the brick base (electrical not included).
- Color: White.
This combination of reinforced foundation work, high-performance glazing, and an insulated roof system helps create a glass room enclosure that feels open and bright while supporting more consistent indoor comfort.

Site Prep and Ground Leveling
We began by removing and hauling away existing shrubbery and bringing in fill material to level the ground. Establishing a stable, even base is a critical first step for a clean slab pour and a long-lasting glass room enclosure.
Concrete Foundation — Built for Strength and Stability
A new concrete foundation measuring approximately 10 ft. × 15 ft. was installed. The slab was doweled into the existing house slab to help tie the new foundation into the structure. The slab assembly includes wire mesh reinforcement and a Visqueen vapor barrier, plus a concrete footing around the perimeter of the slab.

Under-Slab Supports
The slab also includes (6) concrete supports beneath the slab, each approximately 3 ft. × 12 inches. These supports add structural strength and help distribute load beneath the room footprint.
Brick Column and Brick Base Details
Masonry work was included to provide a durable, finished base and a clean architectural look.
- Installed (1) 12 in. × 12 in. brick column on the corner of the slab.
- Installed a 24 in. double-wide brick base on the 10 ft. side wall.
The brick base also provided a clean location for the heat and cool unit, keeping components integrated and visually tidy.

Insulated Thermal Three Glass Room Wall System
The enclosure was built using a Southern Sun Room custom-manufactured insulated Thermal Three glass room system. The wall system measures approximately 10 ft. × 15 ft. and includes large Lifetime vinyl windows on the side of the room only.
Insulated Base on the Window Side
On the window side, the system includes an insulated base measuring approximately 18 inches high and 3¼ inches thick. This detail adds rigidity and insulation at the lower section of the wall system.
Low-E Glass and Argon Gas
The windows are built with Low-E glass and argon gas, a combination commonly used to reduce heat transfer and improve overall efficiency in insulated sunroom and glass room builds.

12-Foot Sliding Glass Doors
To maximize access and preserve an open view, we installed (2) heavy-duty, full-view insulated 12-foot sliding glass doors. Like the windows, the doors include Low-E glass and argon gas for insulated performance.
3-Inch Foam-Filled Insulated Roof with Integrated Gutter System
The roof system is a 3-inch thick foam-filled insulated roof with an integrated gutter system and measures approximately 11 ft. × 16 ft. The roof includes (1) fan beam to support airflow planning and comfort features.
Heating and Cooling Unit
A heavy-duty hotel-style heat and cool unit was installed into the brick base. Electrical is not included, allowing the homeowner to coordinate electrical work separately based on their preferred setup.
Why This Type of Glass Room Works Well in Kenner, LA
In the Greater New Orleans area, homeowners often want an enclosure that adds everyday living space while still feeling connected to the outdoors. By pairing a reinforced slab foundation with an insulated wall system, Low-E/argon glazing, and a foam-filled insulated roof, this Kenner glass room enclosure was built around durability, comfort, and clean finishing details — without sacrificing natural light.

FAQ — Glass Rooms and Enclosures in Kenner, Louisiana
Is this a four-season glass room?
This project uses an insulated wall system, insulated glazing (Low-E/argon), and an insulated roof designed to support more consistent comfort. Final “four-season” performance depends on multiple factors, including HVAC sizing, electrical setup, sun exposure, and how the space is used.
Why does the foundation include dowels and a perimeter footing?
Doweling into the house slab and adding a perimeter footing helps tie the new slab to the existing structure and supports long-term stability. Reinforcement elements like wire mesh and a vapor barrier also support overall slab performance.
Do Low-E glass and argon gas matter in Louisiana heat?
Low-E coatings and argon gas are commonly used in insulated glazing to help reduce heat transfer. In a glass room enclosure, those components work together with insulated panels and proper detailing to improve comfort.
Can a glass room include large sliding doors like 12-ft panels?
Yes. This project included two heavy-duty, full-view 12-foot insulated sliding glass doors to create wide openings and strong sightlines while maintaining insulated construction.
Do you handle electrical work for the heat and cool unit?
For this project, the heat and cool unit installation did not include electrical. Electrical scope can vary by project and should be reviewed during planning.
