Project Overview

A Coordinated Backyard Upgrade in Madisonville, Louisiana

Some home improvement projects are completed in one stage. Others grow with the homeowner’s needs. This Madisonville, Louisiana project is a strong example of a backyard that was improved over time with a consistent design plan.

Southern Home Improvement Center (SHIC) first worked on this backyard in 2024, when the homeowner wanted to turn a plain patio area into a more protected and usable extension of the home. After that first phase was complete, the customer returned to SHIC for another upgrade — a second insulated patio cover designed to expand the covered outdoor space while matching the earlier work.

The finished result is more than a single new structure. It is a coordinated backyard improvement made up of a Thermal Three glass room enclosure, an insulated patio cover, a concrete slab, and a newly added Super Three insulated patio cover in the same Clay finish.

Repeat Customer Project

A Repeat Customer Project in Madisonville, Louisiana

This project stands out because it reflects long-term trust. The homeowner did not call SHIC for one isolated installation. They chose to continue improving the same backyard over time, working with the same team and keeping the design direction consistent.

During the first phase, SHIC installed an approximately 19-foot Southern Sun Room custom-manufactured insulated Thermal Three glass room enclosure. The enclosure included Lifetime vinyl windows and a heavy-duty full-view insulated door, creating a more comfortable space connected directly to the back of the home.

That earlier work also included a 16.5 ft. x 16.5 ft. concrete slab and the first insulated patio cover. The cover was built with a 3-inch thick foam-filled insulated roof, a gutter system, and one fan beam. Together, those improvements changed the backyard from an exposed patio area into a more finished outdoor living space.

Newest Phase

The Latest Madisonville Upgrade: A Second Insulated Patio Cover

For the newest phase, the homeowner wanted to extend the covered area even further. SHIC installed a Southern Insulator custom-manufactured Super Three insulated patio cover measuring approximately 12 ft. x 16 ft.

This second cover was built with a 3-inch thick foam-filled roofing system, a full gutter system, one 2x7 box beam, and two 3-inch x 3-inch aluminum posts. The structure adds more shade and overhead protection while keeping the space open to the yard.

Because the new patio cover connects visually with the existing improvements, the backyard now feels more complete. The covered sections work together instead of looking like separate additions installed at different times.

Design Continuity

Why This Madisonville Backyard Upgrade Looks Cohesive

A good patio project should not look disconnected from the home. In this Madisonville backyard, the key design decision was consistency. The glass room enclosure, the first insulated patio cover, and the second insulated patio cover were all finished in Clay.

That color choice helped the additions blend with the brick exterior, the existing roofline, and the surrounding patio area. The posts, gutters, enclosure frame, and roof systems now share the same visual language.

The result is a backyard that feels planned, not patched together.

How the Thermal Three Glass Room and Patio Covers Work Together

One reason this project is effective is the way the glass room and patio covers support different uses of the same backyard.

The Thermal Three glass room enclosure gives the homeowner a more protected room-like space with large windows and an insulated door. It keeps the area connected to the outdoors while creating more separation from direct weather exposure.

The insulated patio covers serve a different purpose. They keep the space open, provide overhead coverage, and make the patio more comfortable for seating, grilling, and everyday backyard use.

Phased Planning

A Phased Approach to Outdoor Living

Not every homeowner needs to complete a full backyard transformation at once. This Madisonville project shows how outdoor living improvements can be completed in stages while still creating a clean final result.

The first phase established the main structure and enclosed area. The second phase added more covered space. Because the materials, color, and design direction were coordinated, the later addition still looks connected to the original work.

For homeowners planning a backyard upgrade, this is an important point: the first project should be designed with future improvements in mind. That makes it easier to add coverage, enclosure, shade, or usable patio space later without creating a mismatched appearance.

Built Around the Home

Built Around the Existing Madisonville Home

The backyard already had a brick exterior, roof overhangs, windows, and an open patio area. The goal was not to overpower those features. The goal was to improve the space while keeping the finished look compatible with the home.

The Clay finish helped soften the transition between the brick walls, the patio cover posts, the gutter system, and the glass room enclosure. The new cover also follows the practical layout of the backyard, extending protection where the homeowner needed it most.

This type of project is useful for homeowners who want more shade and coverage without fully closing off the outdoor area.

Northshore Backyard Upgrade

Insulated Patio Cover Installation as Part of a Larger Madisonville Backyard Project

For homeowners in Madisonville and nearby Northshore communities, insulated patio covers can be a practical way to make a backyard more usable. They provide overhead protection, reduce direct sun exposure, and help create a defined outdoor living area.

On this home, the second insulated patio cover gave the homeowner more covered square footage while maintaining the look of the previous SHIC installations. The project also demonstrates how a glass room enclosure and patio covers can be combined as part of a larger backyard plan.
