Thermal Three™ Glass Sunroom with Low-E Windows — Baton Rouge Area Case Study
A clean, open patio became a bright, climate-ready glass room enclosure designed for everyday living and weekend gatherings. For this sunroom Brusly LA project, Southern Home Improvement Center (SHIC) poured a new 10′×31′ slab and built a compact ~10′×14′ room that maximizes views to the backyard while keeping heat gain in check. Overview
This sunroom on concrete slab features our Thermal Three wall system with Low-E argon windows for energy performance and clear sightlines. Overhead, foam-filled roof panels with an integrated gutter system manage Louisiana’s storm water while keeping the room cool and quiet. It’s a custom sunroom installation built for year-round comfort — extra living space without the bugs, glare, or afternoon scorch. Learn more about the roof system in our guide to insulated patio roofs.
Project at a Glance — energy-efficient sunroom
Here’s a quick snapshot of the scope and components we used to deliver a durable, comfortable enclosure.
- Location: Greater Baton Rouge sunroom installation (Brusly, LA)
- Foundation: 10×31 concrete slab to support both rooms
- Enclosure size: ~10′×14′ insulated sunroom enclosure
- System: Southern Sun Room Thermal Three — thermal sunroom walls with a 3¼″ insulated base
- Windows: vinyl picture windows with Low-E argon for heat control and clear views
- Roof: insulated patio roof panels with three fan-beam channels and an integrated gutter system
- Colors: White panels; Dark Bronze gutters and trim
This configuration balances year-round comfort, storm readiness, and clean sightlines — a true upgrade over the original open patio.
Before & After — what we started with / what we delivered
Starting point — open back patio under eaves. This home had a plain concrete pad tucked under the eaves — open to sun, wind-driven rain, and bugs. There was no patio enclosure glass room, so the space was hot by midday and unusable during summer storms. Furnishings and the grill sat exposed, and the living room had limited indoor-outdoor flow.
After — conditioned-ready enclosure with panoramic views. We converted the pad into an insulated glass sunroom built for Louisiana’s climate. Thermal Three walls with vinyl picture windows create a bright, panoramic view sunroom, while foam-filled roof panels and an integrated gutter system keep the area cool and dry. The result is a refined glass room addition for the homeowner — bug-free, quiet, and ready for future conditioning if desired.

Concrete Foundation — 10×31 concrete slab
A solid foundation makes the enclosure last. We formed, reinforced, and poured a 10×31 concrete slab to carry both the glass room and the adjacent screen section, aligning elevations to the house for smooth thresholds and clean water shed.
Site prep and layout
We cleared and compacted the footprint, set straight, square forms, and tied reinforcement to handle point loads from wall posts and door openings. Layout referenced the home’s wall line so the sunroom on concrete slab would tie in flush, with anchors positioned for the Thermal Three base track and future door swing clearances.
Slab size and purpose — supports both rooms
The 31-ft run supports the ~10′×14′ glass enclosure plus a 17-ft screened section, giving one continuous platform for traffic flow and furniture placement. The continuous slab also simplifies service routing (electrical/fans) and keeps the two spaces cohesive as a single outdoor living upgrade. See how a coordinated screen section works in our Brusly case study: screen room with insulated roof.
Drainage fall toward yard
We poured with a gentle pitch away from the house so rain and rinse water move off the surface toward the yard and gutters. This attention to sunroom drainage and slab performance helps prevent puddling at the sill, protects finishes at the base, and keeps the new living area clean after storms.

Thermal Three Glass Room Build — thermal sunroom walls
Our wall package focuses on energy performance and sightlines, using Southern Sun Room’s Thermal Three frame with an insulated base for stiffness and clean finishes.
Wall configuration & window layout — vinyl picture windows
We arranged glazing to preserve views and encourage cross-breeze where possible.
- Left wall — solid panel, no glazing, for privacy and furniture placement.
- Front wall — three aligned picture units for a wide, uninterrupted view line.
- Right wall — two operable windows to introduce airflow and help purge warm air on still days.
A 3¼″ insulated base anchors the tracks and improves edge stiffness for cleaner transitions at flooring and trim.
Energy features — Low-E argon windows in an insulated sunroom enclosure
We specified Low-E argon windows to cut solar heat gain and glare without sacrificing clarity. In tandem with the Thermal Three frame and insulated base, the assembly works as an insulated sunroom enclosure — tighter air seals, reduced conduction, and more stable temperatures across seasons. For broader window comfort tips, see our guide to rain gutters and water control that protect walls and sills around the room.
Interior comfort & sightlines — panoramic view sunroom
The glazing proportions and mullion spacing create a panoramic view sunroom that feels connected to the backyard while controlling hotspots and reflections common in a sunroom for Louisiana heat. Natural light stays soft, furniture zones read clearly, and circulation between the living room and enclosure feels intuitive for daily use and entertaining.
Insulated Roof & Weather-Tight Tie-In — insulated patio roof panels
The overhead system adds shade, stiffness, and a clean tie-in to the home so storms don’t interrupt daily use.
3″ foam roof with structure — foam-filled roof panels
We installed foam-filled roof panels at 3″ thickness over the room span to add shade, rigidity, and thermal resistance. Three fan-beam channels provide mounting points for future lighting or fans without compromising insulation. Learn how insulated covers are built in our insulated roof guide.
Integrated water management — integrated gutter system
Storm runoff is routed by an integrated gutter system and downspouts finished in Dark Bronze. This keeps splash-back off the slab and protects wall bases during Louisiana downpours. For full-home drainage options, explore our seamless gutters.
House connection — aluminum roof flashing
At the house tie-in, continuous aluminum roof flashing bridges the new cover to the existing roof line. Seams are sealed and fastened on layout to maintain a clean profile and long-term weather resistance.
Results — energy-efficient sunroom you can use year-round
Year-round usability, light, and added square-footage feel. The new insulated glass sunroom captures backyard views and daylight while moderating heat and glare. It reads like extra living space — breakfast nook, reading corner, or entertaining zone — without bugs or wind-driven rain.
Homeowner feedback — quieter afternoons, lower midday heat, and a smoother flow from the living room to the enclosure. A 5-star review is on the way — a testament to custom sunroom installation done right.

FAQ — Glass Rooms
Do Low-E argon windows really help in Louisiana heat?
Yes — Low-E argon windows reduce solar heat gain and improve interior comfort, especially in peak sun, while keeping views clear in a sunroom for Louisiana heat.
Can a glass room share a roof line with a screen room?
Absolutely. A continuous slab and matched profiles let the glass room and screen section share insulated patio roof panels for a seamless look.
What maintenance does the insulated roof require?
Keep gutters clear and inspect sealant at the aluminum roof flashing annually. Light cleaning maintains finish and drainage performance.
